CarPlay has just expanded to one of the fastest-growing EVs on the market, arriving this week through a free over-the-air update.
Geely may not be a household name in the United States, but it’s a major global player with ownership ties to Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and Smart.
The company’s latest electric SUV, sold in China as the Galaxy E5 and internationally as the EX5, has surged in sales and ranks high among the most popular EVs.
The EX5 launched in mid-2024 and reached its 100,000th unit in China within six months. By July 2025, global deliveries had already surpassed 150,000 units. In Australia, the EX5 broke into the top tier of electric vehicle sales, finishing June as the fourth best-selling EV. Only the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and Tesla Model 3 sold more in that period.

With this week’s OTA update, EX5 drivers in Australia now have access to Apple CarPlay, both wired and wireless. At this stage, the CarPlay rollout is limited to Australia, where the EX5 has been Geely’s launch vehicle.
The company hasn’t confirmed timelines for Asia, the UK, or Europe, but the Australian launch suggests broader availability is likely as the EX5 reaches more markets. Notably, CarPlay support arrives before Android Auto, which has been promised to arrive in early 2026 via another OTA update.

Separately, CarPlay is poised for a major glow up next month when Apple releases iOS 26. The iPhone software update will automatically upgrade every CarPlay interface with new features like customizable Home Screen app icons, app widgets for the first time, and much more.
